About This Treatment

Baby Teeth & First Dental Visits at Woodbend Dental

We recommend a child's first dental visit by age one, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Early visits allow us to monitor tooth development, apply preventive treatments, and — most importantly — make dentistry a positive experience from the very start.

Baby teeth matter. They hold space for permanent teeth, support proper speech development, and enable healthy chewing. Cavities in baby teeth can spread quickly and cause pain that affects sleep, eating, and learning.

Our team is specially trained in child-friendly communication and behaviour management. We use a show-tell-do approach and work entirely at each child's pace — there is never any rushing.

FAQs

Common questions about baby teeth & first dental visits

My child is nervous. What can I expect?
+
Nervousness is completely normal. We work at your child's pace, never force anything, and are experienced at helping anxious children feel safe and comfortable.
Do baby teeth really matter?
+
Absolutely. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, affect speech development, and allow proper chewing for nutrition. Untreated cavities in baby teeth can cause significant pain and infections.
Should I stay in the room?
+
Yes — especially for younger children. We welcome parents in the treatment room and involve you throughout the appointment.
